CUPE ON Child Care Day of Action Jan 20th

Members,

We need your urgent support to keep workers, children, and families safe.

We’re organizing a Child Care Day of Action to demand that the Ontario government immediately act to protect this vital sector.

On Thursday, January 20, between 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, we invite you to call Premier Ford at (416) 325-1941 and demand that the Ontario government:

·         Reinstate PCR testing and reporting in child care;

·         Increase financial support to child care;

·         Provide adequate and ongoing supply of PPE;

·         Legislate 10 permanent paid sick days; and

·         Sign the $10 a day child care agreement.

Ford’s decision to weaken health and safety measures, including deeming child care workers ineligible for PCR testing, has profound health and safety implications for Ontario’s families and child care workers. Child care and early learning workers support children who are often too young to be vaccinated or wear face masks. Without access to timely testing, workers and families are forced into a highly risky, precarious position.

CUPE Ontario echo’s the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC) and the Association of Early Childhood Education Ontario’s (AECEO) demands to keep children and families safe. Safe, affordable, and accessible child care is vital to our province’s well-being. We urgently need your support to avert a staffing crisis and future outbreaks in child care centres.

Thank you in advance for participating in the Child Care Day of Action.

In solidarity,

Christina Gilligan
